SAO TOME ISLAND
Gulf of Guinea
Explore
This island nation in the Gulf of Guinea off the West African coast is made up of two main island, translated from the Portuguese as Saint Thomas and Prince. The island nation is the second smallest and second least populated autonomous country in Africa (after Seychelles). The smaller island of the two, Príncipe, is inhabited by just 7,000 people and boasts untouched Rain Forests and otherworldly rock formations while Sāo Tomé is a wonderful place for culture and beaches. No matter which direction you venture, there’s something special to be found on São Tomé e Principe, from cacao plantations to orchard-filled botanical gardens in the north, the mountains and cascading waterfalls in the east, or the deserted beaches of the southern coast.
